RUSSELL MERRITT Obituary

George Russell Merritt, 73, of Cuthbert, GA passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in the Willson Hospice House. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in the Damascus Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Reeves officiating.

Russell was born on March 8, 1951, in Cuthbert, GA the son of the late George Payton Merritt and the late Sara Joiner Merritt. He was a good man with few words. He said what he meant and meant what he said. He always stood up for what he believed in and valued his friends and family. He loved his fur babies, Lulu, Rambo and Milo and had a genuine heart and loved to help others. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sandra Merritt Murray and granddaughter, Madison Merritt.

He was a graduate of Randolph County High School and a former member of the National Guard. He was employed by DeVane Farms and a member of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Merritt, of Cuthbert, a son, Rusty (Candice) Merritt of Cuthbert, a sister, Janice Giles, a granddaughter, Tesa (Jonathan), 6 grandsons, Dale, Peyton (Kyra), Zachery, Bryceton, John Patrick Thompson and Steven Tyler Kennedy, 8 great grandchildren, Emma Sauls, Heavenly Sauls, Karson Sauls, Lakelynn Merritt, Rowan Merritt, Atlas Merritt, Kennedy J. Thompson, and Eric J. Thompson and many good friends.
