Dr. Albert Homer Stone, Jr., 89, of Fort Gaines, GA “went on his way rejoicing” to his heavenly home on March 2, 2019 at his residence. Dr. Stone was born on February 6, 1930 in Fort Gaines, GA the only son of Dr. Albert H. Stone and Vera Holley Stone. He was the husband of Marianne Vincent Stone.
After graduating from Fort Gaines High School, Dr. Stone attended Emory at Valdosta and completed his pre-dental work at Emory University. While at Emory, he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and Alpha Psi Omega dramatic fraternity. He attended the School of Dentistry at Loyola University in New Orleans, LA, where he was a member of the Psi Omega dental fraternity. After graduation from dental school, he returned to Fort Gaines and entered into practice of dentistry with his father. He practiced until he was in his late 70’s and retired with reluctance. His hobbies included organic gardening and hunting. He was a member of the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church, whose members were graciously attentive to him during his later years.
Dr. Stone was preceded in death by his wife, Marianne Stone, his son, David A. Stone, and his grandson William Stone. Survivors include his daughter, Holley Shuford of Eufaula, AL; his son, Jim Stone of Fort Gaines, GA; his daughter-in-law, Leslie Stone of Hartwell, GA; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, March, 7, 2019 at 3:00 PM in the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church with Mr. Carl Childs officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday in the church fellowship hall from 2:00 PM until service time.
