Obituary

Ann Patterson Puckett Bynum passed away peacefully at her home on June 23, 2025. Ann was born April 23, 1927 and was the only child to the late Dr. J.C. and Marie King Patterson. She was married to the late Robert Green (Bob) Puckett until his untimely death at the age of 44. She then married the late Daniel Kleckley (Doc) Bynum. She and Bob had three children: Patricia Puckett Goodman (Gerry), the late William Patterson (Pat) Puckett (Daphne) and Elizabeth Ann (Bebe) Puckett. She had 5 grandchildren, whom she truly loved, Bob Puckett (Jennifer), Robert Goodman (Heidi), Kadie Puckett Phillips, Ann Marie Goodman Atkinson (Shannon) and Will Puckett. She had 11 great grandchildren whom she also loved and always enjoyed their visits: Abby, Patterson and Parker Puckett, Anna Beth and Jack Goodman, Reed and Bree Phillips, Jaden, Madelyn and Bo Atkinson, and Wyatt Puckett. She was also survived by her nieces whom she loved dearly.

Prior to her declining health in 2022, she was an active and faithful member of the Shellman First Baptist Church (serving as Treasurer for many years), Camellia Garden Club, Randolph County Historical Society and the "Go Girls".  She was a huge advocate for Shellman, Cuthbert and Randolph County being very active with the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce and its efforts in tourism and economic development. She received the 2016 Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Year award, primarily for her dedicated work on the Shellman Driving Tour brochure. She received the 2019 Community Appreciation award for her service to Andrew College, Shellman, Cuthbert and Randolph County. As recipient of this award, it was noted: "Many throughout the community follow her leadership. She does not see herself as a "leader", which is why she is so great at being one. At 93 years of age, she continues to be active in all aspects of her life – family, church, community…simply doing what she sees needs attention…others are still listening and following."

She loved gardening, especially her camellia's and worked in her yard up until just a few years ago. She always had live flowers on her breakfast room table and many plants inside her home. She and her first husband, Bob, were instrumental in organizing the Georgia Walking Horse Association. She was very supportive of her second husband, Doc, as he was willing to try innovative research on his crops and cattle, working closely with the University of Georgia Extension office. She was a huge University of Georgia fan and for many years attended the home football games.

Ann was included in the Personality section of the 2021 Randolph County Georgia Volume III history book. It was noted "She is the "go to" person for information of both the past and present. Some of the descriptions of Ann by acquaintances, friends and family: a witness and inspiration to us all, one strong and life loving woman, tough southern lady, she is amazing, she just keeps going like the energizer bunny, my hero.

Although she was ready to go home to her Lord and Savior, she will be truly missed as she was loved by so many.

Visitation will be held at her residence June 24 from 5:00 – 7:00PM. Her graveside service will be June 25 at 11:00 AM. Currie Spoon will officiate the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shellman First Baptist Church (PO Box 205 Shellman 39886), Cuthbert United Methodist Church (PO Box 449 Cuthbert, GA 39840) or Andrew College (501 College St. Cuthbert, GA 39840).
