Barbara Hastings, 73, of Saluda, NC passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the New Park Cemetery in Ft. Gaines with Rev. Wade Spooner officiating.

Barbara was born on October 22, 1943 in Cuthbert the daughter of the late George E. and Martha McRae Hastings. She graduated from Hillcrest High School in Dallas, TX, received a BBA and MBA from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX and also a PhD in Personnel and Industrial Relations from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX.

She served as a Professor in the Business Department at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. and over 20 years as a Professor in the school of Business at the University of South Carolina Upstate. While at USC Upstate, she started a Foreign Exchange Program for university students from Germany and took USC Upstate students to Germany as part of the program.

She traveled extensively to numerous countries in six of the continents, was an accomplished water color artist and avid reader. She was an active member and former President of the Saluda's Women's Club and did much volunteer work in the Medical Center, the Depot and the Thrifty Barn.

Survivors include her cousins and a host of friends.
