Betty Joiner Jones

Betty Florence Joiner Jones, 98, of Cuthbert, GA passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in the Joe Anne Burgin Nursing Home in Cuthbert. Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 21, 2026, in the chapel of Lunsford Funeral Home with Steve Whatley and Karan Pittman officiating.

Betty was born on December 30, 1927, in Cuthbert, GA the daughter of the late Guy Harris Joiner and the late Emma Rhett Johnson Joiner. She was a graduate of Cuthbert High School, Andrew College and a charter member of Faith Baptist Church. She was retired co-owner and operator of Jack Jones Garage and was the director of the Senior Citizens Center for 10 years. She was elected to the Cuthbert City Council and served for 16 years until 2023. She was recognized as the oldest serving Council member in the state of Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph Alvin “Jack” Jones, Sr., 2 sons, Alvin Jones and Richard Jones, a sister, Sara Merritt and 2 brothers, Nelson Joiner and Fred Joiner.

Survivors include her daughter, Carmen Jones of Atlanta, son, Robert Jones of Dawsonville, GA, sister, Birdie Joiner Harvey of Cuthbert, brother, David (Kim) Thompson of Cuthbert, 4 grandchildren, Kay Moulton, Matthew Jones, Tonya O’Cain and Riley Grimes and 7 great grandchildren, Morgan Moulton, Makenzie Moulton, Sarah Lee Jones, Matthew Jones, Slade O’Cain, Gracie O’Cain and Tucker O’Cain.
