IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Brookie Brooks,
Jr.
December 5, 1943 – June 14, 2025
Francis Elton "Brookie" Brooks, Jr., age 81, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025.
Born on December 5, 1943, in Cuthbert, Georgia, he was the son of the late Francis Elton Brooks, Sr. and Louise Phillips Brooks.
He graduated from Cuthbert High School where he excelled in sports, especially basketball. Because of his great personality he had many friends there and people were drawn to him. After Cuthbert High School, he attended Andrew College in Cuthbert for 2 years and then graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in marketing. He was immediately hired by The First National Bank of Miami and quickly moved up to Vice President in Commercial Loans. Elton had over 35 years of banking experience with the last 15 years in the Northwest Georgia Market. He was Senior Loan Officer and director of two community banks in Carrollton prior to their sell-out and helped convert Carrollton Federal from a savings and loan to a commercial bank prior to its sale to BB&T. His proudest moment was joining forces with local businessmen to open his own Community Bank in 2004 in Bremen, Georgia where he was President & CEO until his retirement. Elton or Brookie, as he was called, was a kind man who always treated everyone the same, no matter their status. He had very strong values & did everything with honesty & integrity.
He loved all sports (Georgia Bulldogs) but his 1st love was golf, dove shoots, fishing at his pond, spending time in Florida playing golf and going antiquing with his wife, always looking for golf clubs. He had hundreds collected over the years. He had a talent for remembering the words to songs and had a beautiful singing voice & loved to sing old gospel songs. Also, he had a talent for remembering & telling jokes. As quoted by his wife of 50 years – he always had her crying from his songs or laughing from his jokes. He also loved his wife's country cooking, fresh boiled peanuts and homegrown tomatoes. Most of all he loved life and appreciated all that God provided.
He loved his two daughters, his son-in-law, three grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and his many friends very much and he will be missed every day.
He is survived by his wife, Carrol F. "Fran" Brooks; daughters Lisa (Tim) Hines and Jennifer Brooks; grandchildren Brooke Wade (Jay), Spencer Hines, and Hunter Hines; step-grandson Tim (Emily) Hines; and seven step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Glenda Baker and Audrey (Paul) Moncada; cousins Kathie (Alvin) Bartlett, Chrissie (Tom) Pedan, and Rick Sulzer.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Jeff Sulzer and Billy Sulzer; brothers-in-law Don Baker and Billy Pendry; and sisters-in-law Margaret Brocato, Doris Cross, and Brenda (T) Turner.
