Carol Simpson, 88, of Cuthbert passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at The Hawthorn in Cuthbert. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, February, 27, 2016, at 2:00 PM in the Cuthbert First Baptist Church with interment in East View Cemetery. Rev. Ben Crowdis will officiate.
Mrs. Simpson was born on December 5, 1927, in Albany, GA. the daughter of the late Curtis Sylvester Martin, Sr., and the late Hope Clements Martin. She was a graduate of Cuthbert High School, Andrew College and Georgia College and University. She retired in 1991 as the Director of Randolph County Department of Family and Children Services after 39 years and was a faithful member of the Cuthbert First Baptist Church and Winsome Sunday School Class. She was a member and past President of the Cuthbert Pilot Club and a member of the Randolph County Unit of the American Cancer Society, where she served as Treasurer for 18 years. She served on the Randolph County Board of Family and Children Services and was Vice-Chairman of the Board. She was also a member of the Southwest Georgia DFCS Retirees Association and the Georgia State Retirees Agency. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Heuland Marvin Simpson and 2 sisters, Emmaline Griner and Martha Martin.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Mike McGlaun of Richland, a son, Terry Simpson of Cuthbert; and a son and daughter-in-law, Shelly and Wanda Simpson of Fernandina Beach; 2 granddaughters, Melissa McGlaun Jernigan (Luke) of Buena Vista and Ashley McGlaun Futch (Jonathan) of Preston; 2 grandsons, Shelly Simpson, Jr. (Kimberly), of Jacksonville and Heuland Simpson (Michelle) of Fernandina Beach; great grandchildren Ella Jernigan, Reed Jernigan, Cade Futch, Haley Simpson, Heuland Simpson, Holden Simpson, Ella Simpson and Indi Simpson, step grandchildren, Theresa Walker and Rebecca Collins; step great grandchildren, Courtney and Noah Walker; brother, Curtis Martin, Jr. (Patricia) of Cornelia, GA., a sister, Elizabeth Anderson (Bill) of Oakwood, GA.; 2 nieces and 2 nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 26, 2016, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Lunsford Funeral Home. Memorial may be made to the Cuthbert First Baptist Church at P. O. Box 274 Cuthbert, Ga. 39840, Gentiva Hospice at 432 E. Shotwell St. Bainbridge, Ga. 39819 and The Hawthorn at West Hwy 82 Cuthbert, Ga. 39840 or flowers will be accepted.
