Lucy Carolyn Dunning Faudree died on August 23, 2025, at her residence in Cuthbert, GA. She was born in Blakely, Georgia on November 27, 1930. Her parents were Charles Montee Dunning and Frances Marion (Mosely) Dunning.
Carolyn graduated from Blakely-Union High School (now Early County High School). She was a member of the Beta Club, played basketball, was a cheerleader, and chosen as the prettiest girl in her graduating class. After high school Carolyn went to G.S.C.W for her freshman year of college. While there she was President of the freshman dormitory. Carolyn then transferred to the University of Georgia as a Sophomore.
At UGA she was elected President of Mary Lyndon Dormitory, joined the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and enjoyed spending time with her sister, Marion, who was also a senior at UGA. Carolyn was selected as Miss Athens and was first runner up in Miss Georgia. She majored in U.S History and Spanish. She was among the students who were honored on Honor's Day for being at the top of their class. Carolyn was also on the Homecoming Court her senior year at UGA. She said it was an honor and thrilling to ride in a convertible at halftime around the football field.
When Carolyn graduated from UGA and began her teaching career. She taught in Albany, GA at Albany High School. While at Albany High she met Bobby Faudree, a 6' 3" ex-Marine who taught US History. They fell in love and married in 1958. She taught until their son, Robert, was born in 1963. Bobby later joined the Frist State Bank, and a new career began for them. They lived in several places including Macon, Tifton and Cuthbert.
Carolyn taught at Stratford Academy in Macon and later at Miller High School. When Bobby became President of the First State Bank in Cuthbert she taught Spanish at Randolph Clay, Randolph Southern, and ended her career teaching at Andrew College. She also taught Sunday school for 18 years at Highland Girls in Macon.
Carolyn enjoyed teaching, playing bridge, reading, crossword puzzles, stamping, cross-stitching, sewing, eating out, watching the UGA Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves and gardening her Daylilies. She had many beautiful daylilies, some of which came from her mother's garden. Carolyn loved Christmas and decorating for Christmas.
Carolyn is proceeded in death by her mother, father, and to her husband of 62 years, Bobby. She leaves her son, Robert Faudree, Jr of Cuthbert, her sisters, Marion Eanes of Stockbridge, GA and Charlene Williams of Atlanta, GA; niece, Terry Williams; nephews Todd and Tyler Williams and great nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 1:30pm in the chapel of Lunsford Funeral Home with Rick Brooker officiating. Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church at P. O. Box 274, Cuthbert, GA 39840
