Dale Hood Aycock, 83, of Shellman, GA passed away suddenly on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in Willowood Personal Care Home in Edison. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 16, 2025, in the Shellman Eastview Cemetery with Rev. Josh White and Rev. Chet Anderson officiating.
Dale was born on November 14, 1941, in Edison, GA the daughter of the late Charles Durwood Hood and the late Vera McCauley (Andrews). She was a graduate of Edison High School and retired from the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services. Dale was a longtime member of Shellman Baptist Church and a Sunday school teacher for many years. She loved the Lord and is now enjoying the rest that only He can provide, but she will be greatly missed by those of us who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Henry Aycock, brother, Charles M. Hood.
Dale began her working career with Edison Textiles, where she became an excellent seamstress. She followed with owning a fabric store in Edison, GA, and later a clothing store. She later worked for many years at the child support office in Cuthbert, GA, and had many friends there and was affectionately known as Grandma. Dale also enjoyed decorating cakes for people. She was a wonderful cook and a master gardener, and a member of several garden clubs. She was well known by many of Randolph County's youth for her contributions towards their gardening experiences, and her Azalea buds youth garden club.
Her love of "digging in the dirt", planting flowers for the hummingbirds and plants for the butterflies and bees, were a favorite for her. She found her peace in the outdoors with her plants and her dogs, but she was busy as well in the kitchen. She loved making cinnamon rolls, cheese straws, tea cakes, pumpkin and banana breads, and giving them away to friends and family.
Survivors include her daughter, Wendy Braswell of Shellman, son, Neal (Jan) Braswell of Morgan, 4 grandchildren, Jacob Braswell, Brandon Mulford of Cairo, GA, Rachel (Brandon) Murray of Redmond, Washington, and Grace Elizabeth Torneo of Leary. She was a great grandmother to Jonathan, Joshua and Hayden. She also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Ridge and Kurt, as well as many friends and relatives.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
