Obituary

Sarah Eulelia Patterson Strickland, a native and long time resident of Cuthbert, Georgia, passed away just before 10:30 AM on Saturday, Nov.24, 2012, at The Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, Florida after a short illness.

Mrs. Strickland, whos was 96, was born in Cuthbert, Georgia on Dec. 5, 1915. Her father was Caldwell Patterson, of Perote, Alabama and her mother was Jewell Jackson Patterson, of Baconton, Georgia who married in 1908.

A member of the Cuthbert United Methodist Church, Mrs. Strickland graduated from Cuthbert High School and Andrew College and was married in February of 1937 to James Monroe Strickland, Jr. of Dothan, Alabama.

After graduating from Andrew College, Mrs. Strickland moved to Albany, Ga with her husband before settling back in her hometown of Cuthbert, Ga where she was active in the community, her church, and her son's education and extra-curricular activities. In addition, she spent many hours helping out at Patterson's Pharmacy. In the 1980's, Mrs. Strickland moved to Tallahassee, FL. so that she could be closer to her immediate family, whom she dearly loved. She is remembered best by those who love her generous, giving spirit who loved to cook and share with others. She had a close groups of friends in Tallahassee who loved to visit with her and hear stories of her family.

Survivors include two grandchildren; Heather Strickland Murphy (married to Brian Patrick Murphy), and Holly Strickland Dickinson (married to Jonathan Douglas Dickinson) and four great-grandchildren, Sarah Jane Murphy (12) Kyndall Macey Dickinson (10) Emily Anne Murphy (8), and Jonathan Kole Dickinson (8), all of whom reside in Tallahassee, FL. Mrs. Strickland is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Susan Strickland Head (married to Charles Head), of Tallahassee, FL. and several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her  father, Caldwell Patterson, her mother, Jewell Jackson Patterson, her husband, James Monroe Strickland, Jr. her brother, Leon Caldwell Patterson, and her son Lee Patterson Strickland.

Mrs. Strickland will be buried at 2:00 PM on Nov. 29, 2012 at a family plot in the Eastview Cemetery, Cuthbert, Ga.
