James Fred Hill, Jr. of Big Canoe, Ga. passed away January 18, 2016 after a long illness. Fred (as he was called) was born in Clearwater, Fl. July 5, 1940 to James Fred Hill, Sr. and Hattie Smith Hill. He attended school in Tifton, Ga. and college at Middle Georgia and Morehead State College in Morehead, Ky. He later got his Masters and Doctorate at the University of Georgia. He was a football coach in Albany, Cuthbert, Fayetteville and Nashville, Ga. He also was with Dekalb College in Decatur, Ga. where he then retired. He later moved to Big Canoe, Jasper, Ga.
He is survived by his wife, of 52 years, Barbara Ragan Hill, his son, Jeff (Suzie) Hill and grandchildren Nathaniel, Rebekah and Griffin of Alpharetta, Ga., 4 brothers, Andy (Debbie) of Duluth, Ga., Tommy (Sandra) of Bowling Green, Ky., Buddy of Decatur, Ga. and John David of Lithonia, Ga., 3 sisters, Carolyn (Dan) Hill Branch of Tifton, Ga., B. J. (Len) Hill Malone of Marietta, Ga. and Anita Hill of Atlanta, Ga. and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at Vilulah Baptist Church, Coleman, Ga. on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until funeral time in the church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Vilulah Baptist Church, 422 Morgan Road, Coleman, Ga. 39836.
