Sheriff Gary Yochum, Sr. 62, of Cuthbert, died Saturday January 12, 2013 at Patterson Hospital in Cuthbert. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday January 15th at 2:00 PM from the Cuthbert First Baptist Church with Rev. Jackie Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Cuthbert.
Sheriff Yochum was born July 1, 1950 in Macon, Ga. the son of the late William (Bill) Yochum,Jr. and Margaret McFather Yochum. He was a member of the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church near Cuthbert, a high school graduate and a US Army veteran serving in Germany. He was the Sheriff of Randolph Co. and had been reelected for a fourth term in November 2012. Sheriff Yochum was a member of the Georgia Peace Officers Assn., the Georgia Sheriffs Assn. and the Policeman Benevolence Assn.
Survivors include his wife; Brenda Mantooth Yochum of Cuthbert, 2 sons; Gary Yochum, Jr. and Brent Yochum both of Cuthbert, a sister; Kiona Yochum of Cuthbert, a brother-in-law David (Debbie) Mantooth, of Moore, OK., a sister-in-law; Bonnie Adams of Moore, OK., 3 grandchildren; Gary Yochum III, Tyler Yochum and Haley Yochum and several cousins.
The family will recieve friends on Monday January 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
The family request memorials to be made to the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes Memorial Fund at P. O. Box 1000 Stockbridge, Ga. 30281.
