Obituary

Gerry Goodman passed away following a long battle with Parkinson's and thyroid cancer at his home on August 19, 2025. He was the only child of the late Ruth Nell Bowen and Loy Hiram Goodman. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Patricia Puckett Goodman for 54 years. They grew up together, sharing many childhood memories. He is survived by this wife, Patricia Puckett, their two children, Robert Hiram Goodman (Heidi) of Helena, AL and Ann Marie Goodman Atkinson (Shannon) of Tifton, GA and five grandchildren, Anna Beth and Jack Goodman and Jaden, Madelyn and Bo Atkinson. He is also survived by sisters in law, Bebe Puckett and Daphne Puckett, both of Shellman, and his aunt, Charlene Bowen Scholey of Menifee, CA as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his brother-in-law, William Patterson "Pat" Puckett and his mother-in-law, Ann Patterson Puckett Bynum.

Gerry was a graduate of Randolph County High School, attended Andrew College and was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He was a huge Georgia Bulldog fan. After graduation, he and Patricia moved to Albany, but in 1973, they moved back to Cuthbert where Gerry joined his dad at Auto Parts and Supply Company. This business served Cuthbert and Randolph County for over 50 years before Gerry closed the doors in 2021 due to health issues. He was very active in the community being one of the original volunteer firefighters in the county. He was a leader with cub scouts and boy scouts, as well as a volunteer recreational youth football coach. Beginning in the late 1970's, he filmed the Randolph County football games for many years. He also videoed the Cuthbert United Methodist Church morning worship services that were aired on TV. In 1981, he was appointed as the Justice of the Peace and served in this capacity through the 80s. He was in the Lion's Club for a number of years. He was a lifetime member of the Cuthbert United Methodist Church and served in many leadership capacities, including Trustee and Treasurer. He was a proud Rotarian, serving many years as the Secretary/Treasurer and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He meticulously placed all of the decals on the Highland Timber Racing car, with Harris Devane as the ARCA driver. He enjoyed painting designs on needle point mesh and was good at needle pointing. He loved riding motorcycles on and off road and boating at the lake, hunting and working in his woodworking shop.

Gerry will be sorely missed by his family and many friends, but he is now at peace, with no more suffering and is home with his heavenly father.

Visitation will be at his residence on August 22, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00. The family will also receive friends at the church prior to the service at 2:00.
