Obituary

Mary Grace Hiller Spann, 96, of Shellman died Sunday, March 9, 2014 at Brown Health and Rehab Center in Statesboro. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson with Rev. Olin Johnson to Officiate.

Mrs. Spann was born May 3, 1917 in Bronwood the daughter of the late George Gammage and Belle Dale Hiller. She was raised in Dawson and earned a degree in English from Georgia State College for Women. She taught high school English in Shellman for 7 years and worked at the Kinchafoonee Regional Library for 15 years before retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Shellman First Baptist Church for 67 years where she taught adult ladies Sunday School Class until 2007. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union and the Randolph County Library Board. She was prceded in death by her parents and her husband of 53 years, Glinn Linwood Spann.

Survivors include 2 sons, Bill Spann and his wife Laura of Marietta, GA and Hiller Spann of Millen, GA., 4 grandchildren, Tanya Spann Roche of Laurel, MD., Stephen Spann of Atlanta, GA., Brad Spann of Dublin. Ga. and Hilary Jo Spann of New York, NY., 3 great grandsons, Mason Spann and Jaxon Spann of Dublin and Alec Roche of Laurel, MD., a great great granddaughter, Sabrina Roche of Laurel, MD.

Memorials may be made to the Shellman First Baptist Church P. O. Box 205 Shellman, GA. 39886. The family will recieve friends on Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 at the funeral home.
