Raymond "Grady" Chambless, 85, of Dawson, GA passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.
Grady was born on January 26, 1939, to Wiley E. Chambless and Gladys Lee Chambless. He attended school in Terrell County and graduated from Terrell County High School in 1957 where he was active in many sports and very active in the Future Farmers of America organization. After graduation, he joined his father and brother on Wiley Chambless and Sons Farm which later became Chambless Brothers Farm.
He was drafted into the army in 1962 and served two years after which he returned to farming and served in the Army National Guard for many years.
He attended Dover Baptist Church where he was a member for many years and currently was a member of Dawson First Baptist Church. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and watched and coached from his chair and everybody knew not to block his view of dare change the channel. He was also an experienced sportsman, loved fox hunting, bird hunting, deer hunting and did a lot of fishing in his earlier years. His greatest joy was having all of his family home for Thanksgiving and seeing the guys and one granddaughter have a big time deer hunting and hog hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Carol Chambless, sister-in-law, Kay Chambless and two brothers-in-law, Billy Marshall and Jerry Marshall.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joy Marshall Chambless, two daughters, Melody and Jeff Scott of Live Oak, Florida, Christy and Kevin Lumpkin of Coleman, Georgia. Grandchildren, Jason and Krissy Scott, Aaron and Annabelle Scott, and Arvis Scott all of Live Oak, Florida, AnnMarie and Schuyler Baxter, Anda and Jeremiah Spencer all of Thomasville, Georgia, Jakeb and Kaylen Scott of Lagrange, Georgia, Joy Scott of Boise, Idaho and Paige and Whitney Lumpkin of Coleman, Georgia. Great grandchildren Ellie and Maelee Scott and baby brother Scott on the way, Jake and Jack Spencer, Bentley Scarborough and Dawson Scott. Also surviving is a brother, Joe Chambless and several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral service was held at Lunsford Funeral Home in Cuthbert, Georgia, with family members conducting the service.
