Hazel Martin Glenn, 95 of Edison died Jan. 10, 2014, at the Calhoun Nursing Home in Edison Ga. Her funeral will be a graveside service, Tuesday Jan. 14, 2014 at 1:00 PM in Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Highway, Athens, Ga. with the Rev. Ray Austin and Rev. Alan Mace officiating.
Hazel was born Jan. 26, 1918, in Jackson County, Georgia to the late Dilmus Benjamin and Connie Adams Martin. She was married to William A. Glenn on June 29, 1941, and they celebrated 57 years of a loving life together before his death.
After graduating from Martin Institute, Jefferson, GA, she attended and graduated from the Opportunity Business School in washington, GA. She worked at the Christian College of Georgia in Athens, and then at the University of Georgia for 29 years.
Hazel was a member of the Professional Secretaries International and was chosen Secertary of the Year for the Athen's Area in 1970.
Hazel was a member of the First Christian Church, Athens for over 70 years and served as a Children's Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Worship Committee, and Elder and Secertary to the State Board of Christian Church.
She was a lifetime member of the Garden Club of Georgia, and served as a volunteer at the Botanical Gardens of Georgia. Gardening and especially the growing of roses were a favorite hobby, and she loved sharing all the flowers she grew.
Genealogy and family reseach was an important part of her interest. She was a member of the Elijah Clarke, NSDAR Athens Chapter.
Her thoughts were always centered on her faith in God, and how she could show her unselfish love to her family and friends. She was a gracious lady, never complaining and always thinking of others.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, John Glenn Ingram, Ft. Gaines, GA, six of her brothers, Harold Martin, Clinton Martin killed in World War II, Joe Byrd Martin (Myrtice), Walter Martin, Carl Martin (Jane), and Cecil Martin.
She is survived by her daughter Connie Glenn Ingram and her husband Tim of Edison, GA., granddaughter Paige Ingram Shiver, Camilla; great grand children: Sloan Faith Shiver and Sutton Glenn Shiver, Camilla; a brother: Clyde Martin and wife Frances of Jefferson; sisters-in-law: Helen Martin, Miami, FL, and Kate Martin, Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews, and several very special cousins.
