On the morning of July 13, 2014, Edward passed away after a nine month courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Edward Gilbert was born in the City of Cuthbert in Randolph County, GA. on June 18, 1969 the son of Crispin Carter and James Tamsett Gilbert.

Edward was a graduate of the Randolph-Clay High School, a graudate of Andrew College with an Associate's Degree and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education from the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. He also earned a Master's Degree in Kinesiology from Greogia Southern University.

At Georgia Southern University, Edward met his best friend and future wife of 15 years, Rhonda Williams Gilbert. They were married at the Cuthbert United Methodist Church on April 24, 1999. They established a home in Lawrenceville, GA where Edward was employed for 12 years at the Gwinnett Medical Center Sports Rehabilitation Department. Edward was a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Cardiac Rehabilitation Specialist and had recently been certfied in Cancer rehabilitation.

Edward's greatest accomplishment was being the father to his three boys, James Powell, Clinton Tamsett and William Edward Gilbert.

Edward was actively involved in his boy's sports activities. He volunteered to coach their baseball teams and was head coach of the Collin's Hill 10 year old football team for seasons. It brought him great pleasure to watch all his boys engage in the sport of wrestling.

In addition to his parents, Edward is survived by his beloved wife, Rhonda, three boys, Powell, Clint and William, his sister, Sonja Gilbert Rowland (Scot) and nieces and nephews including, Hill Thomas and Carter Rowland.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, July 17, 2014 in the Cuthbert United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM with interment to follow in East View Cemetery with Dr. David Seyle and Dr. Peter Vermeulen officiating. A memorial service will be conducted in the Strickland Chapel at Gwinnett Medical Center at 3;00 PM on July 20, 2014 in Lawrenceville, GA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
