Ruth Janelle "Miss Nellie" Pittman, 92, of Benevolence, passed away on May 10, 2025, in Plains, Georgia. She was born on July 19, 1932, in Smithville, GA, the daughter of the late Kinney Andrew and the late Mary Farris Phillips of Smithville. On May 11, 1952, she married Max Joseph Pittman, Sr., in Smithville. The couple enjoyed 73 years together and had two children: Max Joseph Pittman, Jr. (Karan) and Mary Phyllis Pittman Beard (Dexter); five grandchildren: Matthew Beard (Kim), Daylon Beard (Jasmine), Peavy Pittman (Amy), Katie Pittman Wright (Lee), and Kirsten Beard Cochran, and eight great-grandchildren: Dayleigh Beard, Cam Wright, Levi Beard, Warren Pittman, Silas Beard, Charlee Wright, Whit Pittman, and Talley Cochran.
Mrs. Pittman attended Smithville schools then transferred to and graduated from Lee County High School. After graduation, she attended business school in Albany, Georgia. She worked at Sloan Dodge in Albany before moving to Benevolence, later working as the bookkeeper for Pittman Machine Works for over 30 years. Mrs. Pittman was a member of the Benevolence Baptist Church and served as the Clerk of the church for over 40 years.
Visitation will be held at Benevolence Baptist Church at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Graveside services will be at Benevolence Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, with Rev. Lee Wright officiating
