It is with deep sadness that the family of James Edwin Brazeal announces his death. James known as Jim, Jimmy, Daddy, or Papa to his family and friends passed away on June 22, 2026, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia.

A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Lunsford Funeral Home in Cuthbert on July 1, 2026, at 2:00 with Reverend Tom McClendon, D. Min., officiating. Visitation will be held preceding the funeral service at 1:00 in the Lunsford Funeral Home chapel.

Jim, age 81, born in Cuthbert on December 5, 1944, was the son of the late Ellis Herman Brazeal, Sr. and Clarice Lawson Brazeal. He graduated from Cuthbert High School in 1963 and from Columbus College with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. Along with his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by his brother William Gerald “Jerry” Brazeal.

In addition to his loving wife, Sharon, he is survived by his children Lisa Brazeal of Cuthbert, Jamie (Jessica) Brazeal of Southport, NC, Tessa (Darin) Garland of Cuthbert, Barry (Donna) Blanton of Coleman, six grandchildren Isabella Brazeal of Southport, NC, Madeline Brazeal of Southport, NC, Tyler (Jennifer) Thompson of Martinez, GA, Natalie (London) Smith of North Augusta, SC, Daylon Blanton of Edison, Braylie (Dylan) Spurlock of Leary, and six great-grandchildren Lydia Thompson, August Smith, Beckett Smith, Ridge Blanton, Emmalyn Spurlock, and Brody Spurlock. He is also survived by his brother Ellis, Jr. “Buddy” (Ann) Brazeal, as well as nieces and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Jim was a devoted husband and father who loved his family. He enjoyed watching old movies (especially westerns), University of Alabama football, and, of course, anything Elvis. His dog, granddogs, cats, and grandcats all held a special place in his heart.

Jim served in the US Navy aboard the USS New Orleans during the Vietnam War. Jim was proud to be a Vietnam veteran. He retired from the position of DOL Services Specialist with a focus on Veterans Affairs at the Georgia Department of Labor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Humane Society, or your local animal shelter.
