Jimmy (Jim) Truett Turner, Sr, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at the Willson Hospice home in Albany, Georgia on September 16th, 2026, at the age of 80. Jim was born on September 3, 1946, in Edison, Georgia. He was raised south of Shellman in Randolph County, Georgia. He spent the last 55 years of his life in Calhoun County on Elam Church Road where he built a home and raised his family.
Jim dedicated almost twenty years of his life working as a foreman and mechanic for Wyman Rice Farms before going into business for himself in the early 1980’s. He was known for being one of the best diesel mechanics in the area. He was at home with a wrench in his hand, but his favorite place was on a tractor. As he grew older and it became harder to turn those wrenches, he became a part-time farmer growing mostly peanuts, corn, pecans and grain sorghum. He harvested his last crop of peanuts in the fall of 2025.
He is survived by his sons Jamison Turner (Shannon) of Albany, GA, and Marty Cannington (Shelia) of Cairo, GA, and his daughter Lisa Hilton (Lamar) of Edison, GA. Also surviving is his brother Perry Eugene Turner (Millie) of Cuthbert, GA, and his sister Bonnie Gay Milner of Shellman, GA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Truitt Turner and Novella Thompson Turner, two brothers – Loren Gary Turner and James Robert Turner as well as a beloved son, Jimmy Truett Turner, Jr whom he loved very much.
A Celebration of Life and graveside service will be held on Monday, September 21st, 2026, at 11:00 am at Prospect Methodist Church in Shellman, GA. Visitation for friends and family will be held immediately following the service at the cemetery.
