John Alexander Fox, 93, of Dawson died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at his residence. A celebration of his life will be held at the Graves United Methodist Church in Terrell County on Sunday, May 29 at 2:00 p.m. with the Reverend Stan Littleton and Mrs. Mavis Moore officiating.
Mr. Fox was born Jan. 7, 1923, in Dawson, GA, the son of the late Andrew Jackson Carver and Nelle Alexander Fox. He was a Terrell County high school graduate, and a 1947 graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at UGA. He was a board member of the Terrell County Department of Family and Children Services for the last 43 plus years and was one of the founders of the Georgia State DFCS Board Association. He was a member of the Nochaway Coon Hunters Association. He retired from the US Postal Service in Terrell County after 35 years of service. He was a WWII Army veteran who served in the European Theatre from 1943-1945, and was a member of the Graves United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife Estelle Harris Fox of Dawson, 2 daughters; Jane (Jerry) Washburn of Albany and Laurie (Noel) Montfort of Cuthbert a step-son; Donald (Sheila) Warren, 2 step-daughters; Doris Angela (Wesley) Hatcher and Diane W (Jason) McManus, 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; Frances Harbison Fox, a daughter; Julie Prescott, and a step-son; Steve Warren.
