Obituary

John Richardson Hunt died April 11, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice in Columbus, GA. One of six children, he was born in Milan, Georgia, on June 4, 1927, to Joseph Huddleston Hunt and Bertha Richardson Hunt. The family settled down in Blakely, GA, where John grew up. He graduated from Middle Georgia College and served three years in the Army as a sergeant.

John received his Bachelor of Science of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Georgia in 1951. He came to Cuthbert in 1955, and opened Hunt Drug Company, which he operated on the Cuthbert square until 1993. Later, he worked as a relief pharmacist for several years in Lumpkin, Plains, and Ellaville, Georgia.

John was a member of the Cuthbert United Methodist Church for over 45 years, serving in many capacities, including treasurer, administrative council member, trustee, chairman of the renovation committee, and as delegate to the South Georgia Annual Conference. He served on the Randolph County Board of Education for 10 years. He also served as chairman of the Randolph County Indigent Fund and was a member of the Cuthbert Rotary Club.

In 2004, John and Margaret moved from Cuthbert to Fortson, GA, to be nearer to his grandchildren and his heart specialists. They became members of Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church, where they worshiped, met and enjoyed many friends in the church family.

John was an avid reader, loved listening to music, and was a devoted Georgia Bulldog fan. He also enjoyed keeping up with the Braves, and during his tour at Fort MacPherson, attended Atlanta Crackers games at old Ponce de Leon Park. He loved his family, his church, his friends and his customers.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, James Warren Hunt of San Diego, CA, his sister, Isobel Hunt Clink of Bay Village, OH, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in- law, and various aunts and uncles.
