Mary Joyce Commander, 71, of Shellman, GA passed away on Monday, June 6, 2022, at her residence. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 9, 2022, in the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery near Shellman with Rev. Jackie Williams officiating.

Joyce was born on November 6, 1950, in Cuthbert the daughter of the late Wesley Benjamin Commander, Jr. and the late Laurette Aycock Strickland. She was a graduate of the Calhoun County High School, a retired loan officer for First Franklin Loan Co. and a member of the Baptist Faith. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Wesley Benjamin (Sonny) Commander, III.

Survivors include her son James "Jimbo" (Deirdre) Shumate of Plains, 2 sisters, Patricia Duke and Brenda Smith both of Shellman, 3 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jack and Bentley and 4 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
