LEONARD EARL MESSER
Leonard Earl Messer 74, died Monday Dec. 30, 2013 at his residence in Cuthbert. A memorial service will be conducted on Sat. Jan. 4, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Cuthbert First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 am until the service.
Mr Messer was born in Cuthbert, Georgia on May 16, 1939 to D.P. and Ruth Wilson Messer. He attended school in Cuthbert and graduated from Lake Wales High School in Lake Wales, Florida. He served in the Army National Guard of Florida and Georgia.
Leonard was a member of the Cuthbert First Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He was a longtime member of the Cuthbert Lions Club, Randolph County Historical Society and the Randolph County Chamber of Commerce. As a younger man, he worked with the Boy Scouts and taught many of the young men in his nieghborhood to hunt and fish. He had many hobbies such as scuba diving, beekeeping, hunting, fishing, photography, woodworking, archery and growing greenhouse plants.
He retired from Kellwood Company, where he held several management positions in the twenty plus years that he worked there. He was very civic minded and performed volunteer work in the community.
Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Frances Palmer Messer, two sisters, Judy Kerrin of Lake Wales,FL and Danelle Flett of Lakeland, FL, one brother, Richard Messer, of Lake Wales, FL, nieces, nephews and cousins, including Lenora Wilson Thompson of Cuthbert. He was preceded in death by his parents, D.P. and Ruth Wilson and one sister, Joyce Messer.
