IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Liane Gisela
(Kunst) Roinestad
February 1, 1926 – April 8, 2015
Liane Gisela Roinestad was born in Crimmitschau, Saxony-Germany on February 1st, 1926 to Fritz and Helene Kunst.
In 1947, after years of the 2nd World War where the family hotel with
the village auditorium-dance-gymnasium complex having been used, in
turn, by the Germans, Russian, and Americans as a Prisoner of War
prison; her University and all factories being closed down and stripped
by the Russians; she flew over the borders via the northern
British/Canadian territories to the city of Ulm in Southwest Germany in
hopes for a better future. There she worked for Telefunken and found
good lifelong friendships in the local Alpine club.
To alleve
guilty feelings of Germany's war crimes, she worked two years in Great
Britian. Due to her acquired English language knowledge, she became
supervisor of the American PX/coffee shop upon her return to Ulm. There
she met and married her husband, George Arnold Roinestad in 1955. They
had two children, a son Thomas Frederick in 1956 and a daughter,
Christine Helene in 1959.
With George's retirement after 20 years
of service in the army, they bought their farm at Wades Crossing near
Benevolence. Mrs. Roinestad worked hard with her husband to make a
living and pay off their farm of hay fields, pecan orchards and woods.
Initially they raised calves from the bottle, also tried raising pigs,
and planted beans, potatoes and her beloved asparagus in the red Georgia
soil. Often she had to help with the hay making - riding the tractor
and raking the hay in rows for George to bale after work.
Liane
also was a substitute teacher in the Randolph Schools many years and
suppported the Band with their barbeques. She was an avid reader and
loyal library member. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a longtime
player in a local bridge group. Mrs. Roinestad served many years as a
disciplined treasurer for the First Baptist Happy Hearts club.
Liane Roinestad is survived by her son, Thomas Frederick Roinestad with wife Cindy of
Loveland, Colorado and by her daughter, Christine Helene Anger with husband Thomas of
Weissach im Tal, Germany. She has two grandsons, Lucas and Jens Anger
and two granddaughters, Alia and Kara Roinestad
Memorials services will be conducted on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at 3:00 PM in the Benevolence Cemetery.
