Melvin E. Roland, 73, of Smithville passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 in East View Cemetery in Cuthbert with Rev. David Benton officiating.

Melvin was born in Shellman, GA. on February 14, 1941 the son of the late Glenn B. Roland and the late Minnie Joiner. He served in the U. S. Army and retired from Real Estate Maintenance and Tower Management. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and 2 sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon A. Roland of Smithville, GA., a son Cody Wade Roland of Smithville, GA., a daughter, Sonya Roland Sapp and her husband Doug Sapp of Leesburg, GA., a brother, a sister, a granddaughter, Brittany Sapp, a sister-in-law. Deborah Davis of Leesburg, GA. , a niece, Brandie Chappell and her husband Tim Chappell of Doerun, GA., 3 great nieces, Kori Hembree and her husband Jordan Hembree and their daughter Hadley of Doerun, GA., Logan Chappell and her son Brooks Vincent of Doerun, GA. and Karley Chappell of Leesburg, GA.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 18th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Lunsford Funeral Home.
