Obituary

Nancy Catherine Crossley Rawlins Oliver, 81, of Cuthbert, GA, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Fellowship Home in Cuthbert. Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Cuthbert First Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Ziglar officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday at 1:00 PM at the church prior to the service.

Nancy was born on February 17, 1943, in Monroe, GA, daughter of the late Monroe Crossley and the late Thornwell Faye Bethune Crossley. She was a graduate of Monroe Area High School, a retired medical records clerk for Southwest Georgia Regional Hospital, and a devoted member of Cuthbert First Baptist Church.

Known as Mama, Mom, and Gramma, Nancy's greatest joy was her family.  She was the heart of her family, always making sure everyone was cared for, especially through her home-cooked meals.  In her younger years, she found peace and joy in her garden, tending to her flowers with the same love and care she showed to those around her. She had a gift for seeing the good in everyone and encouraged her children to embrace faith and build a strong relationship with the Lord. She was actively involved in her church family for as long as she was able and remained devoted in heart and spirit even when she could no longer attend.

She enjoyed traveling to the mountains with Donnie, always stopping at local antique shops along the way. For Nancy, the perfect vacation was a week at her mother's house in Monroe, surrounded by her siblings and all the children, filling the home with laughter and cherished memories. Though she held various jobs throughout her life, she was particularly proud of the year she spent working at the Georgia State Capitol after graduation.

When life brought its share of trials, including surviving an auto accident at age 23 despite multiple fractures of both arms and legs, Nancy faced them with toughness, grace, resilience, and an enduring belief in the power of faith and love. Her smile and laughter could light up any room, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Gene Rawlins; her second husband, Donnie Oliver; her brother, Phil Crossley; her granddaughter, Morgan Taylor; and her son-in-law, Tim Edwards.

She is survived by her loving family, including her daughters, Marla Edwards of Shellman, GA, Monica Oliver of Cuthbert, GA, and Deborah Oliver of Eufaula, AL; her son, Richard (Katie) Rawlins of Watkinsville, GA; her sisters, Janet Guy and Rebecca Crossley, both of Mobile, AL; her grandchildren, Trent (Caitlyn) Taylor, Alex Rawlins, and Malina Rawlins; her great-grandchildren, Olsen and Giles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 274, Cuthbert, GA 39840.
