Obituary

Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Raymond Robert (Ray) Andrae, Sr. of Fort Gaines, Georgia, died on Tuesday, October 30,2012 in Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patsy Hall Andrae, 2 sons; Raymond R. Andrae, Jr. (Christine) of Colleyville, Texas and Gary Alan Andrae (Melissa) of Grapevine, Texas, 2 sisters; Dorothy K. Harnish (Skip) of Columbus, GA. and Emalee White (Dean) of Destin, Fl. 3 brothers; Don Andrae (Diane) of Auburn, Al., Richard Murray Andrae (Cheryl) of Houston, TX. and Jeffery Andrae (Rita) of Pooler, GA.,3 grandchildren; Justin Robert Andrae of Midlothian, TX., Alan Ryan Andrae of Fayetteville, AR. and Amy Elizabeth Andrae of Fayetteville, AR., mother-in-law; Dorothy Davenport Hall of Coleman, GA., sister-in-law Claudette Carter (Harold), brother-in-law; John Newman Hall (Eunice), and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Raymond Fred Andrae and Ruth Ottilia Sieloff Andrae of Columbus, GA., a grandson; Jarrod Robert Andrae of Duncanville, TX. and a brother; Bruce William Andrae of Bremerton, WA.

Mr. Andrae was a graduate from Elkhart Senior High School in Elkhart, Indiana. He received a BS in Business Administration from Troy State University in 1973 and a MS in Community Agency Counseling and Guidance from Troy Stae University in 1974.

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and served in tours of service in the United States, Europe and Vietnam. In 1976 he was assigned to the Military Science Department at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) as Associate Professor of Military Science. In 1979, upon his promontion to LTC., he assumed the position of Professor of Military Science and successfully managed UTA's Military Science Department until his retirement in 1981. During his years of service at UTA, he served as the advisor to the Sam Houston Rifles Drill Team, which won the drill team Championship in 1978. He was instrumental in the establishment of the UTA Military Science Hall of Honor. LTC Andrae was honored in 1993 as a Honorary Distinguished Alumni by the University of Texas at Arlington.

Upon his retirement he served as a consultant to a number of small businesses before entering a new career in church administration. He served as a church administrator from 1984 to 2006 at both the First Presbyterian Church and the First United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas. Upon his retirement in 2006, Ray and Patsy moved to Fort Gaines, Georgia. He continued to be active in church and community activities as well as supporting the UTA Corps of Cadets. He was a member of the Military Order of World Wars, Fort Benning; and was Adjutant of Post 85, American Legion in Cuthbert.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, Nov. 3rd at the Fort Gaines Untied Methodist Church, Fort Gaines, Georgia with interment at the Coleman Cemetery in Coleman, Georgia.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Lunsford Funeral Home in Cuthbert, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fort Gaines United Methodist Church at 120 West Commerce St.  Fort Gaines, Georgia 39851.
