Robert Fritz Hancock, 97 of Lake City, Florida died Monday December 7, 2015.
He was born to the late Robert Fritz Hancock Sr., and Annie Willie Coleman Hancock on January 27, 1918 in Fort Gaines, Georgia. Robert graduated from the high school in Fort Gaines. After high school he started working for Georgia Power Company until he joined the United States Navy in 1941 during World War II. Upon his return home he returned to work with the Georgia Power Company and married the late Audrey Berney Batchelor on November 4, 1944. Robert continued to work with the Georgia Power Company in Nashville, Georgia until his retirement. While living in Nashville, Robert was a volunteer firefighter and continued to serve the community as a bailiff at the courthouse upon his retirement. Robert accepted Christ as a young child, was baptized and attended various Baptist churches throughout his lifetime. He was most recently a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake City, Florida.
Robert loved to work in his garden especially spending time cultivating his daylilies. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather for whom he was known as "Papa H." He relished the time that he got to spend with his great grandchildren and spending time with them was his greatest treasure. Robert also enjoyed collecting coins and sharing his knowledge with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even after his eye sight became limited the knowledge he shared was invaluable to them.
Robert is preceded in death by his siblings, Zack Coleman Hancock, and Willie Sue Hancock, his grandson Jefferson Hancock Davis, and son in law Robert Kushman Davis Jr. Robert is survived by Nancy Patricia Hancock Davis daughter, Robert Fritz Hancock Jr. son, John Robert Davis (Melissa) grandson, Kimberly Nan Davis Lavender (Michael) granddaughter, great grandchildren Branden Robert Davis, Alexandria Lauren Lavender, Alyson Lee Davis, James Michael Lavender III (Jay) and extended family member, Lawrence Vick.
A graveside service will be held in Fort Gaines, Georgia Saturday December 12 th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the First Baptist Church of Lake City, FL; Florida Baptist Children's Home; and Jeff Davis Memorial Scholarship Fund.
