Obituary

It is with sadness that the family of Thomas "Tommy" Howell Floyd, 71, of Cuthbert, GA announces his death. Tommy passed away May 11, 2024, at The Fellowship Home at Cotton Hill in Cuthbert, GA after a brief battle with Wernicke's Korsakoff Syndrome.

Tommy was born November 13, 1952, in Donalsonville, GA, to the late C.A. and Janice Floyd. Along with his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his brother Terrell Kirkland "Kirk" Floyd.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Melodie Floyd, his children: Lindsey Hays and husband Chris of Madison, GA, son Chase Floyd and wife Joanna of Cuthbert, GA, son Jon Floyd and wife Courtney of Cuthbert, GA, and daughter Carrie Moseley and husband David of Leary, GA; grandchildren, Bryan Thomas and Davis Saunders Hays of Madison, GA, Marley Jo, Jon Beecher, Charles Asher, and Magnolia Anne Floyd of Cuthbert, GA, Wayne Axom, Henley Elaine, and Evan Stetson-Thomas Floyd of Cuthbert, GA, and John David Moseley, III of Leary, GA; brother, John Benjamin "Benjie" Floyd and sister-in-law Gayle of Bainbridge, GA.

Tommy was a graduate of Seminole County High School, Middle Georgia College, and Georgia Southwestern.  Tommy spent over 44 years in the agricultural industry working for Gold Kist, Southern States, and retiring from Sanders in 2015.  Following his retirement, Tommy and Melodie caught the travel bug. Together, he and Melodie took several cross-country trips and made countless vacations to the beach and mountains, enjoying the scenery and cuisine of all their travel destinations.

Tommy was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying deep sea fishing and hunting for deer, quail, and ducks. Many weekends were spent in the woods in the deer stand or dove field.  Tommy was a life-long Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan.  He spent countless Saturdays in Athens and loved taking the entire family to Braves games and Georgia football games.  Over the years, he enjoyed traveling the southeastern United States to see Jon play college baseball and visiting Lindsey and Chase in Athens, especially during football season.

In addition to his love for sports and the outdoors, Tommy was an excellent cook.  Sunday dinners were his specialty and he greatly enjoyed teaching his children how to cook.  Even in the end stages of his illness, he could still rattle off his best recipes from memory.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 1:00 in the chapel of Lunsford Funeral Home in Cuthbert, GA.  Arrangements will be handled by Lunsford Funeral Home.
