Walter “Adraine” Peck, 80, of Cuthbert, GA, passed away May 28, 2026. Memorial services will be conducted on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Lunsford Funeral Home with Steve Whatley officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until service time at the funeral home.
Born November 20, 1945, in Cuthbert, GA, Adraine was the son of the late Ferd and Dot Peck of Cuthbert. He graduated from Cuthbert High School in 1964 (the year before it became Randolph County High School) and Georgia Southwestern College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, Linda, he is survived by his daughter, Renee (Jimbo) Moore of Preston, granddaughter Taylor (Chandler) Diem of Dawson, and grandson Bo (Zoe) Moore of Preston, and two great-grandchildren, Hadley Kate Diem and Rhett Diem. He is also survived by his sisters Gloria Brooker and Jo (Deker) Hixon, brother Wayne (Terri) Peck, and brother-in-law Dean (Mary Jo) Morris, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Adraine was a “gentle giant”—a big-hearted, broad-shouldered, steady man who deeply loved his family. He was a hard-working, generous husband, father, brother, grandfather and son.
The oldest of the four Peck siblings, Adraine was a sometimes-mischievous, fun-loving brother who set the tone for a lifetime of family love, laughter, and animated storytelling. Adraine *may* have pranked his family members over the years—including instilling in his siblings a lifelong fear of dark dining rooms—but he supported them just as easily. Behind his tough exterior (which was really just a way to avoid small talk), he showed up and smiled with a sideways grin, which felt both hard-earned and charming.
Adraine worked in the agriculture industry his whole career, first as a farmer for 20 years. After farming, he owned a directional boring company and worked in irrigation water meter installation. Then he retired and helped his son-in-law Jimbo with land clearing as needed.
In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time in his shop, welding, restoring, and “tinkering” with old cars and trucks, shooting skeet, and shooting sporting clays. Like all of the Peck family, he loved dogs and spent a lot of time with his German shepherd, Reb, and his Shih Tzu, Dixie.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Holding Hope c/o Danny Lake, 200 W. Church Street, Cuthbert, GA 39840.
