Albert Leslie “AL” Whited, 74, of Coleman, GA awakened to his heavenly home on March 8, 2021 after a long battle with physical illness. He passed peacefully in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 11, 2021 in the Coleman Cemetery with Rev. Ben McFather officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. The wearing of masks is encouraged and social distancing will be required.
Al was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in September of 1946 to the late JL Whited, Jr. and Vivian Braud Whited. In February of 1971 he married the love of his life Wanda Marie Whited. They lived in Louisiana until 2010 when they moved to Georgia to be near their daughter (Melissa Tabb of Coleman) and her family. They were married for 50 years.
Al worked tirelessly far as long as his body allowed. First as a Merchant Marine, then as a welder, and finally as a handyman. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and the know how to build or fix anything.
Al never met a stranger and had the unique ability to make a friend out of everyone he talked to. He enjoyed the simple things in life like sitting by the river to watch the ships go by, being on the water in his boat and feeling the tug of a big Redfish at the end of his line. He also enjoyed taking long drives, crawfish boils, family get togethers, anything having to do with his grandchildren, and of course Wanda’s good cooking.
He attended Faith Baptist Church in Cuthbert, Georgia and Collins Boulevard Baptist Church in Covington, Louisiana. Al was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kenneth “Kenny” Whited.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Whited of Coleman; his daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Todd Tabb of Coleman; his sister, Madeline “Katie” Whited of Gulfport, Mississippi; his 3 grandchildren, Tyler, Maitland and Miles Tabb; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Al loved the Lord, his family and his friends very much and he will be greatly missed. Wanda and Melissa would like to extend a special thanks to Katie Whited, Natalie and Jason Bourque, Jill and Chris Goff, Ms. Vickie Hopwood and the caretakers from Kindred Hospice (Becky, Demetria, Mary Jane and Angela).
