James Carlos “Sambo” Ragan, 75, of Carnegie passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 11, 2022, in the Carnegie Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Shannon Morris officiating.
Sambo was born on May 20, 1947, in Cuthbert, GA the son of the late Homer Bertram “Big Daddy” and Cordelia “Mama Dee” Johnson Ragan. He was a US Air Force Vietnam Veteran and a member of the Carnegie Baptist Church. He was retired from Firestone in Albany, Lockheed-Martin in Marietta and Brown-Williamson Tobacco in Macon. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Robert “Robbie” Ragan and 2 sisters, Betty “Sister” Kennedy and Adelyn “Suge” Goree.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye Sawyer Ragan of Carnegie, 2 daughters, Sonya (John) Jones of Hawkinsville, GA and Kelly Jean Ragan of Carnegie, a daughter-in-law, Glenda Lane Ragan of Sylvester, a sister, Patricia Marie “Ree” (Michael) Garmon of Monroe, GA, 3 brothers, Thomas A. “Sonny” (Joan) Ragan of Edison, Harold Kenneth “Boots” Ragan of Carnegie and Walter Robert “Bob” (Diane) Ragan of Carnegie and 3 grandchildren, Cody Ragan, Aubree Jones and Will Jones.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
