James “Jimmy” Marcus Ragan, Jr., 83, of Cuthbert, GA passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 30, 2022, in the Angels for the elderly in Montogomery, AL. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 3, 2022, in the chapel of Lunsford Funeral Home with Rev. David Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 PM until funeral time in the chapel.
Jimmy was born on December 16, 1938, in Coleman, GA the son of the late James Marcus Ragan, SR. and the late Mary Florence Bruner Ragan. He was a graduate of Randolph County High School, a US Army Veteran and a member of the Cuthbert First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Susan Marie Ragan.
Jimmy continued his education and graduated from John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, TN. After graduating he was drafted into and served two years in the United States Army. Since he had some knowledge and experience typing, he was made the company clerk following his completion of basic training and was stationed at Ft. Lewis Washington where he served his complete tour of duty. When he was discharged from the Army he worked for funeral homes in Macon, Fitzgerald and Griffin before returning to his native Cuthbert. He joined his partner, Elton White in purchasing Lunsford Funeral Home in August 1966 where he continued to serve his community until his health required him to reduce his duties one year ago.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Iva “Ed” Ragan Sellers of Ramer, AL, 2 nieces, Ragan Spears of Houston, TX and Bea Sellers of Pike Road, AL and a nephew, Trip Sellers of Montgomery, AL.
