JOYCE (PHILLIPS) HESTER

Joyce Phillips Hester, 93, of Lumpkin, Georgia died June 15, 2022, at the Fellowship Home of Cottonwood in Cuthbert, Georgia. Joyce was born on May 19,1929 in Cuthbert, Georgia, the daughter of the late Vernon and Addie Phillips. Joyce graduated from Cuthbert High School in 1946. She received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia in 1950. She received a Master's Degree in Education from Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia in 1975. Joyce taught kindergarten in Lumpkin and Stewart County Elementary School for 36 years. She was a member of the Lumpkin United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Chris Hester (Janice) of Lumpkin, Georgia, two daughters, Laurie Lee (Jimmy) of Lumpkin, Georgia and Lisa Weiland (Peter) of Madison, Alabama, four grandchildren, Christopher Hester (Rita) of Lumpkin, Laine Lee of Camilla, Georgia, Carter Weiland (Caitlin) of Huntsville, Alabama and Cooper Weiland (Jill) of Mobile, Alabama, three great grandchildren, John Henry Hester of Lumpkin, Georgia and Jack and Emma Weiland of Huntsville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by husband, Charles Hester and granddaughter, Lynn French, sisters, Margery Dews of Edison, Georgia and Anne Moshell of Cuthbert, Georgia. Joyce will be missed by all. A private family remembrance will be held at Phillips Pond.
