Mr. Nichols was born on December 24, 1936, in Carnegie, GA the son of the late Barney Jackson and Martha Clenney Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jason Nichols, a sister, Ann Nichols and a brother, Jack Nichols.

Julian Nichols grew up in Carnegie, Georgia working on the family farm and in his father’s general store, Nichols Brothers Store. In high school he lettered in basketball, baseball, and track, and was active in FFA (Future Farmers of America). Summers were spent measuring land and working on the farm and in the store. Falls were spent bird hunting. Julian graduated from Edison High School (Edison, Georgia) in 1955.

Following graduation from high school, Julian enrolled in North Georgia College (Dahlonega, Georgia). At the time, North Georgia was a full-time military college, which meant Julian spent many hours doing all the things new recruits are required to do. At the end of his sophmore year, he transferred to Auburn University. He graduated from Auburn in 1959 with a B.S. in Math Education.

Julian participated in ROTC throughout college. Following his graduation from Auburn University, he enlisted in the United States Army and served for one year. He served in the Medium Tank Battalion (Patton) 3rd Armor Division where he earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He also served in the Army Reserve up to 1970. At the end of his tour of duty in the Army, Julian married Annette Davis. They were wed on the 18th of December 1960.

After completing his active tour of duty, Julian received an assistantship at Auburn University to work on his M.A. in Math Education, which he completed in 1961. Following the completion of his degree, he taught high school math at Baker High School in Muscogee County from 1961 to 1962, and then at Cuthbert High School from 1962 to 1963.

In the Fall of 1963, Julian accepted a position at Andrew College in Cuthbert, Georgia and taught math there for the next thirty-nine years. During his time at Andew, he became a professor and held many leadership positions. While teaching at the college, he continued to do farming. His dream and goal had always been to return home and farm. Julian retired from teaching in 2003. He ended row cropping in 2006 but continued to raise cattle and manage timber through most of 2022.

Julian has served on the Randolph County board of Assessors, the Randolph Southern Board of Education, and served on the Southwest Georgia Regional Hospital Board from 1995 to 2022. He is a member of the Carnegie Baptist Church.
