James Richard Morrison, 85, of County Line Community, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 3, 2017.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the County Line Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Williams and Rev Jack Kinley officiating and interment to follow in the Church Graveyard.

Richard was born in Live Oak, Florida, on April 18, 1932.  He lived most of his life in County Line Community, Stewart County, Georgia.

A graduate of Stewart County High School, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army during the time of the Korean Conflict, and was stationed in Germany.  Returning to Georgia, he completed his education with degrees from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia, where he met his wife, Carol Ann McKinnon.  He was a Mason and a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.

As a member of County Line Baptist Church, Richard served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Song Leader.

Richard combined his agricultural training with his practical experience as a farmer’s son to run a successful family farm with his father, Leland Morrison, and later with his son, Winston Morrison. He was an advocate for agricultural concerns on the local, state, and national level, serving as President of the Stewart County Farm Bureau for many years, traveling to Atlanta and Washington, D.C. to make sure legislators heard the voice of a farmer.

In his retirement years, Richard enjoyed restoring antique tractors.  He was a founding member of Sowega Big Wheelers, and could often be seen in local parades at the wheel of one of his antique tractors.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Levia Knighton Morrison; father, Leland Odell Morrison; and brother, William Eugene Morrison.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol Ann McKinnon Morrison of Lumpkin; son James Winston Morrison and wife Julie; daughter Cathy Morrison Rudowske and husband Mark; granddaughter, Carrie Rudowske; brother David Morrison and wife Vivian; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a dedicated friend. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the funeral home.
